Sharon Voros moved to approve, Valerie Hegstrom seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Election Results: Bob announced the results of the recently conducted elections. Ben Gunter was elected for a three-year term on the Board, and Bob Blue, Mindy Bada, Bonnie Gasior, Susan Paun de Garca, Angel Snchez, Laura Vidler, and Sharon Voros were reelected for an additional three-year term. The following current officers were reelected for one-year terms on the Executive Committee: Bob Johnston, President; Susan Paun de Garca, Vice-President; Don Larson, Secretary; and Sharon Voros, Treasurer Treasurers Report: Sharon Voros, AHCT Treasurer, distributed copies of the annual report, and briefly drew attention to the most important items of the report. They are as follows: Checking account: Opening balance (2/29/08) $17,918.06 Income: 14,094.05 Expenditures 15,616.31 Reserved for grants 2,845.00 Closing balance 13,550.80 Everett W. Hesse Fund: Closing Balance, CD (12/31/07) 34,608.46 TOTAL AHCT ASSETS: 48,159.26 ($13,550.80 plus $34,608.46) In connection with the Treasurers Report, Valerie Hegstrom suggested the amount of the Hesse Award given to the best graduate student paper presented at the annual conference be increased from the current $500. After some discussion, it was decided, without there being a formal vote, that the amount be maintained for the present but that it be supplemented by reimbursing the winner for the registration fee that he or she has paid. Bob then asked for a motion to approve the Treasurers Report. Don Larson so moved, Amy Williamsen seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Change in Election Procedures. Bob Johnston announced that at its meeting three days earlier the Board of Directors had voted to amend the Associations By-Laws in order to solicit nominations for Board membership during the summer and to hold the annual election in the autumn instead of in the winter, as has been the practice until now. The new procedure has the advantage of allowing newly elected members to make plans to attend the annual meeting in March in timely fashion. New Dues and Registration Structure. Bob then reported on the new dues and conference registration structure approved at the previous Board meeting. As regard dues, the relevant new amounts are as follows: Individual Members: $40, or $70 for two years Students and Retired Members: $30, or $50 for two years Patrons: $60 Sponsors: $70 As regards conference registration, the fee for all faculty attendees, as well as for graduate students who are reading papers or participating in a special session, is now $105. A late fee of $25 is assessed if registration is paid after the cut-off date in early February. It is planned that as early as summer, 2009, the AHCT will have a new e-chapters site on the Internet which will enable members to pay their annual dues online as well as to register for the annual conference and pay the registration fee. This will simplify current payment practices and, it is hoped, increase annual revenue. 2010 Annual Conference. Bob announced that the 2010 Annual Conference has been tentatively set for March 4-7. It is hoped that arrangements can be made for the noted British director, Laurence Boswell, to be the plenary speaker at the conference. Boswell was the translator and director of the production of Fuente Ovejuna presented during the 2008 season of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. In connection with his remarks about the conference, Bob spoke of recent changes at the Chamizal National Memorial Park which impact the annual Siglo de Oro Drama Festival. Richard Harris, the former Park Superintendent, has been transferred to another position, and Catherine Light is the new Superintendent. Paul Roney has recently retired, as has also Cristina Olague. Michael Groomer, Chief of Education and Interpretation, continues in his current position, as does Dora Martnez. Both will be working on plans for the 2010 Festival. 2009 Conference. Valerie Hegstrom spoke of the high quality of the conference thus far, and offered warm words of praise for the conference organizers. Bob seconded her remarks and mentioned that this years innovation of posting conference abstracts online had served to raise the profile of the conference as well as to enhance its overall quality. It has been determined that the practice will continue next year. Miscellaneous Announcements. Bob Johnston announced that there will be certain changes in the administration of the AHCT video collection. Jason Yancey, the curator of the collection, will be moving from the University of Arizona to Grand Valley State University in Michigan and, on a one-year trial basis, will be taking the lending portion of the library with him. Amy Williamsen spoke briefly about the procedures involved in making the move, and then made the suggestion that clips from the most popular videos in the AHCT collection be posted online and linked to the AHCT catalog. Bob reported that Miguel Valenti of the School of Theatre and Film at Arizona State University is considering making a film documentary of the Chamizal Siglo de Oro Drama Festival and is interested having the collaboration of the AHCT on the venture. Finally, Angel Snchez communicated the welcome news that he had negotiated with the administration of the Camino Real a reduction in the room rate for next years conference. The new basic rate will be $90. Motion to Adjourn: Valerie Hegstrom moved to adjourn, and Sharon Voros seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45. Respectfully submitted, Donald R.
